"Energizing" Your Body with your Yoga Practice
Updated: Mar 22, 2018
Modern Science is just beginning to be able to recognize and map how energy moves through the body. Knowledge that ancient techniques like yoga and acupuncture have worked with for centuries is only recently becoming recognized in our westernized systems. Regardless of when this will be fully realized, it's a simply fact that our nervous system controls our entire being, and therefore the health of our nervous system becomes paramount in taking care of our health and well being.
In yoga class we are constantly manipulating the spine... forward bends, backward bends, side bends, extensions, twists. This energizes the body in a way that a regular "work-out" cannot.
The second level of this the "chakra" system. In yogic philosophy there are thousand of tiny energy points in our bodies that can be stimulated and energized through movement. The seven main chakras line the spinal column and surprisingly, each one of those "energy vortexes" coincides with a major endocrine gland in your body. So by practicing yoga and "energizing your chakras", you are also stimulating the endocrine system which plays a major role in how you feel and act on a daily basis.
Yoga is beyond exercise. It is a system to create health in the body and mind. If you look at the actual definitions of "fitness" and "health" the difference becomes suddenly clear:
Fitness: an organism's ability to survive and reproduce in a particular environment.
Health: the state of being free from illness or injury.
By committing to your yoga practice, you are energizing your body and building a system of health. This is something you cannot find at a traditional work-out a the gym.
